Wiltshire CCC 1st XI to play Gloucestershire at Cheltenham Cricket Festival
Gloucestershire County Cricket Club has added a National County fixture against Wiltshire to the already impressive Cheltenham Cricket Festival lineup, with the 50-over match scheduled for Sunday 31 July.
The Festival will now offer 11 days of cricket in 15 days compiled of two LV= Insurance County Championship matches, one Rachael Heyhoe Flint trophy match and one Royal London Cup match alongside the Wiltshire game.
Pete Sykes, Managing Director at Wiltshire Cricket said:
“Wiltshire Cricket is delighted that our showcase game against Gloucestershire will be taking place during the iconic Cheltenham Cricket Festival. For all of our players, members and supporters this will be a great experience and one that we are very appreciative and proud to be a part of.
“In recent years we have been delighted to develop a close working relationship with Gloucestershire through our talent pathway partnership. With that in mind, this fixture provides a further opportunity for the two counties to come together to demonstrate the benefits of a close working relationship as well as to showcase the talent that exists within national counties cricket”.
Wiltshire faced Gloucestershire at Bristol County Ground in 2021. For Wiltshire, William Wade scored 67 and Jack Mynott 40 as Wiltshire posted 229 all out in their pursuit of Gloucestershire's 334-5.
Gloucestershire Cricket CEO, Will Brown added:
“Adding our fixture against Wiltshire to the Cheltenham Cricket Festival is wonderful news for both counties and our supporters in the north of Gloucestershire.
“It will be fantastic to welcome our neighbours to Cheltenham in what will be the 150th anniversary of the longest-running cricket festival in the world. We are delighted to now be hosting two weekend fixtures with Western Storm also making a return to the Festival for the first time since 2018.”
The Club would like to thank Pete Sykes and Wiltshire Cricket for agreeing to switch the venue of the match to Cheltenham College despite being initially intended to be a home match for the National County.
