Points shared in NCCA T20 double header against Dorset

Warminster CC played host to the latest round of NCCA T20 matches with Dorset and Wiltshire competing against each other on Bank Holiday Monday. It was honours shared with one win apiece.

Match 1

Wiltshire won the toss and elected to field against a strong Dorset side who sit proudly at the top of the table. The opening pair put on 56 before Jacob Gordon fell to Ed Young with James Degg taking the catch. David Scott 50 then put on an impressive 97 with Sam Young before Scott was trapped lbw by Joe King. It was a long wait again before Joe King struck again having Sam Young caught in the deep by Jake Lintott, but by this time he had made a splendid century, 104 from just 56 balls with 8 sixes. The Dorset innings finally closed on a daunting 210 for 3

Wiltshire began cautiously with two wickets falling early. However, this brought skipper Ed Young to the crease and he enjoyed a good partnership with Jake Goodwin 26. Ed led the way and kept Wiltshire hopes alive with 68 from just 36 balls including 8 sixes of his own. Jack Mynott offered most support with 31 not out, but the Wiltshire innings  closed on 186 for 6 – a score which would have won most matches, but sadly not this one.

Match 2

Wiltshire once again won the toss and again elected to field. Sam Young 22 led the way, but that proved to be Dorset’s top individual score. The Wiltshire bowlers gave Dorset no respite as they ruthlessly took wickets with regularity.  Chris Aubrey struck first removing Jacob Gordon’s bails before Josh Croom did the same to Sam Young and David Scott. Chris Aubrey, 3 for 36, then took the prize scalp of Ross Whiteley caught by James Degg and then trapped Alex Eckland lbw.  Josh Croom, 3 for 15, returned to remove Lucas Del Bianco with a fine catch from Arthur Godsal. It was then the turn of Wadworth Man of the Match Jake Lintott who took 4 wickets for a miserly 11 runs with two players bowled and two catches – Josh Croom and Jack Mynott. This saw Dorset crumble to 84 all out in just 13.1 overs

The Wiltshire reply was always on course for victory even though wickets fell regularly. James Degg 15 and Arthur Godsal 15 were scoring quickly until Alex Eckland removed them both – Degg stumped and Godsal caught behind. He added 2 more stumpings to his tally  having taken 2 stumpings and a catch in the first match.  South Wilts skipper Ben Draper then showed his class with 4 sixes in his total of 31 not out which saw Wiltshire comfortably home on 85 for 5 in just 12.2 overs
