Wiltshire CCC Men start 3 day campaign with draw against Wales
Wiltshire’s first match in the Durant NCCA County Championship Western Division 2 ended in a draw after some 30 overs were lost over the first two days because of rain. Both teams scored 12 points. Batters dominated the match on an excellent Corsham pitch.
Wiltshire won the toss and asked Wales to bat. Steady batting by Wales kept the scoreboard moving until skipper Cam Herring came in at number 6 and proceeded to score 171 not out off 182 balls with the innings ending at 408-9 off 90 overs. There were 3 wickets for Chris Aubrey and 2 each for Josh Croom and Ed Young with Arthur Godsal taking an outstanding catch to get rid of Brad Wadlan.
Wiltshire started their innings on the second day and were all out for 357 with 3 balls off the innings remaining. WADWORTH MAN OF THE MATCH Jack Mynott scored 83, Jack Stearman 58, Ed Young 58, Jake Goodwin 66 and Harry Broderick 43. Jack Harding 4-61 was the pick of the bowlers. By the close of the 2nd day Wales were 32-4 losing both openers and 2 night watchmen.
The third day saw batters again dominate proceedings as Wales declared on 295-8 off 75 overs. Steffan Roberts made 53, Brad Wadlan 44, William Ryan 42 and Cam Herring 73 not out to go with his first innings unbeaten century. Joe King took 4-93 and Arthur Godsal 2-38. This left Wiltshire to score 347 to win in what was likely to be a maximum of about 50 overs. They finished on 157-3 after 33 overs when the teams shook hands with the final hour left. Jack Mynott scored 49 (off 35 balls) and Jack Stearman was 40 not out.
