Match Preview: Wiltshire Women prepare for high-octane T20 day with Wales & Dorset – Sunday 26th May.

Wiltshire Women prepare to bounce back after defeat to Gloucestershire in a T20 double-header on Sunday 26th May, with two exciting short-format fixtures in Newport.

Following a wet start to the season with a postponed 50-over fixture against Oxfordshire and a defeat to Gloucestershire in Wiltshire’s only outing of the 2024 season so far, the team are prepared and excited to move into the T20 phase of the season. Wiltshire will be aiming to cause an upset against Cricket Wales, who have recently been announced as a 2027 “Tier 1” county (“Glamorgan”) under the new ECB Women’s Domestic Restructure. Wiltshire will then face-off against Dorset in a 2nd T20 where they hope to make it 2 from 2 on Sunday!

The T20 phase of the season forms part of a National Competition. The table-topping team in Wiltshire’s group of 9 will progress into a National Semi-Final, with each team competing for the National T20 honours.

Wiltshire have worked incredibly hard over the pre-season and Wiltshire’s assistant coach, Aled Evans is expecting results to turn to winning ways in the upcoming fixtures;

“We have a good group, that are looking to progress, push ourselves on, and start to perform with the best teams up there. [We’re] trying to win some competitions and get some good results that we probably deserved last year, but didn’t quite get over the line with, so this year hopefully we’ll get the results that we deserve and know that we can achieve” – Aled Evans, Wiltshire Women’s Assistant Coach

The T20 day always create a buzz of excitement for all teams, as Wiltshire name just 1 change in their squad since their last fixture, with hard-hitting batter, Alice Robbins joining the squad to replace the missing Holly Presswell. Alice joins the team following an exhilarating innings in a recent U18 fixture for Wiltshire, striking balls all around the park against a strong Somerset attack. Alice will play an important role in the Women’s fixtures this weekend, as she’ll be looking to bring an explosive strike rate to the middle order.

Wales & Dorset also have some exciting names in their squads. Wiltshire will be hoping to make some early-breakthroughs against their top-orders, sneaking some early dismissals of the effective short-format batters including the Welsh, Beth Gammon and Seren Hughes and Dorset’s Victoria Pack and Manta Kothiyal.

The T20 clash takes place on Sunday 26th May at Newport CC, with fixtures beginning at 10.30am and 13.30pm. Spectators and supporters are welcome to attend the fixture for free, and witness explosive T20 action as the National T20 competition gets underway.
