Match Preview: Wiltshire Women welcome Devon Women to Royal Wootton Bassett for a 50-over clash on Sunday 30th June.
Wiltshire Women are looking to turn the tables on Devon, after suffering a 28-run defeat in the recent T20 outing earlier in June. Wiltshire will be wanting to come out on top in the 50-over clash this weekend at Royal Wootton Bassett CC.
Wiltshire and Devon came face to face earlier in June in the ECB Women’s T20 competition, where Devon were 28-run victors in a closely fought game at Potterne CC. Both teams are returning to their 50-over formats for a few weeks, before concluding their T20 season later in the summer.
Wiltshire and Devon have both seen success early in the season, with both teams picking up victories against neighbouring counties, and they’ll both be hoping to continue this winning formula by coming out on top on Sunday. The Wiltshire team will again be led by Captain Isla Thomson, with her counterpart, Steph Hutchins leading Devon onto the field.
“I’m very excited for this weekend. We’ve had some exceptional performances already this season, with lots of individual moments of brilliance across all of our Women’s & Girls’ age groups. Most recently, to see Flo Sharman score her maiden century for the Wiltshire U18s against Somerset was pretty special! She very much deserved that hundred and I’m confident that it’s the first of many! Flo is just one of our talented batters in the team on Sunday and each will be hoping to make a special contribution to the game!” – Sam Dent, Wiltshire Women’s Head Coach.
Wiltshire have a few changes to the team from the recent T20 fixture against Devon, with Lois Wright and Poppy Walker returning to the field in the place of Lauren Adams and Anna-Mae Shean, who is now out of action for 4 weeks following a recent injury. Both Lois and Poppy will be looking to add strength to the Wiltshire bowling attack as they will both form key bowling partnerships throughout the 50-overs.
Devon visit Wiltshire with a similar team to the recent T20 fixture too, with several players in their squad who saw success in the recent fixture, including Ellie Bishop (58 from 43) and Hollie Perkin (31* from 22).
With both teams fielding relatively young squads too, the future potential of these teams is very exciting, with a number already representing Western Storm representative sides. The fantastic opportunity for these young players to be exposed to Women’s County Cricket is invaluable and the standard continues to climb at a rate of knots – a fixture not to be missed!!
The 50-over fixture takes place on Sunday 30th June at Royal Wootton Bassett CC with an 11am start time. Spectators and supporters are welcome to attend the fixture for free.
