Match Preview: Wiltshire Women back in South West T20 Action!

Wiltshire Women’s 1st XI return to the field on Sunday where they will look to build upon their positive start to the T20 competition, having just fallen short against Devon, but successfully defeated a strong Hampshire team earlier in the season.

Wiltshire go into this weekend with a mid-table position, having claimed a victory recently against local neighbours Hampshire. A strong performance this weekend for Wiltshire might see the team leapfrog Somerset and move towards the top of the table.

Wiltshire begin their weekend fixtures with their first T20 against Somerset. The last time these 2 teams clashed was during a 50-over fixture in the 2023 season, where rain abandoned the fixture, with the game well poised for both teams. Following the Somerset fixture, Wiltshire will then take on hosts, Cornwall, who will be looking to get their own back on Wiltshire, having fallen to a defeat 14-days ago at Grampound Road, where Wiltshire came away with a 5-wicket win.

Wiltshire go into this weekend with a youthful Women’s squad, fielding several young stars from the Under-18s squad, who have just been on an 8-game win streak and topping the tables in their respective competitions. The young players within this weekend’s team feature Walker, Sharman, Adams, Smith, Robbins & Cobb.

“The young players we have available for the Wiltshire Women’s team is outstanding! To have so many players pushing to get into the team and with many of these having the opportunity this weekend is really exciting. Each of the players within the team are very deserving and have had brilliant seasons so far with many either having taken lots of wickets or scored plenty of runs! The future is really exciting for Wiltshire and I can’t wait to see these players flying high for years to come!” – Sam Dent, Wiltshire Women’s Head Coach.

Somerset & Cornwall will also feature talented players and this will surely create a spectacle for those coming to watch the fixture. Cornwall will be lead by captain, Kellie Williams and will feature several exciting players, including big-hitter Bex Odgers and Western Storm EPP Cricketer, Millie Matthews. Somerset’s team is yet to be announced, but it’s expected that their batting line-up will be led by Moledina & Hawkins, who have both had high-scoring seasons to date.

The T20 fixtures take place on Sunday 28th July at Wadebridge CC with the Wiltshire fixtures starting at 13.30pm & 16.30pm. Spectators and supporters are welcome to attend the fixtures for free.
